February in London

February marks the end of the sale period in London, with many stores marking items down as much as 70% off original prices in the famous blue cross sales. So with a bit of planning and hard work there are bargains to be found. Wrap up warm and take to the streets of London to find that perfect bargain!

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards, the BAFTAS, take place on Sunday the 16th of February at London's Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. The nominees for Best Film this year include 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity and Philomena. The Academy's Film Awards date back to 1947 and will be shown live on BBC television.
The Chinese new year of the Horse is also celebrated this month, marking the biggest festival of the year for Chinese communities. The London celebrations will take place on Sunday 2nd of February, one week after the start of the official beginning of the Chinese New Year. The parade and festival will take place in London's Trafalgar Square. A host of festivities will take place throughout the day from 11am until 5.30pm, including Chinese dragons, dances and music. The day will end with a giant fireworks display shortly after sunset.
